Do you have wood furniture that could use an upgrade? Wood furniture can be dull or lose character through the years of use. Refinishing wood can bring an updated feel to your interior atmosphere. Also, you may create tables from scratch by using your own wood. Here are some techniques to add more character to the pieces.
To add more drama to the wood, use a burn effect. Using a blowtorch, lightly braise the wood with the flame in desired spots. Be careful not to concentrate areas more than the other for a natural look. To make the wood darker, you may repeat this step or you can add a stain to help achieve this.
Another cool look is to distress the wood by applying texture to it. One way to achieve this is by using a chain and penetrate the wood to create indents. By adding indents it will portray a rougher look to add more character to the piece.
Pictured are a few examples. The furniture pictured here was actually raw scrap wood that we had in the garage. A few saw cuts and nails later and this is what it looks like.
Each piece is about $10.00 in labor and a little sweat equity.
