Home Remodeling Ideas: 8 Summer Projects to Get Done

1. Enhance the Landscaping

One of the more popular summer home remodeling projects that only take a weekend to complete is adding and sprucing curb appeal. There is no question that lawn beautification goes a long way for adding value to your home and for increasing your home’s visual appeal. Simply because landscaping is the first impression potential buyers and visitors see, it is a critical component to get a jump start on your summer home remodeling projects.

2. Upgrade/Repair Windows

Like landscaping, windows are another aspect of your home that influences the first impression of visitors and potential buyers. Replacing windows can seem like a daunting task, but the benefits you gain can make a big difference. Besides increasing your home’s beauty, upgrading or repairing your windows offer many other benefits. For example, it can reduce your energy costs, increase comfort and quiet, increase the natural light in your home, and it also makes for better safety and easier cleaning.

3. Spruce Up the Exterior

It is surprising what a little paint can do for the appearance of your home, and its value. Not only does paint enhance the exterior look of your home, but siding repairs and replacements also have the same impact. Deciding to give your home a fresh coat of paint is also an inexpensive way to remodel. When thinking about a big way to change the look of your home this summer and not wanting to spend a ton of money doing it, sprucing up the exterior with a new coat of paint is the way to go.

4. Upgrade/Repair the Front Door

Believe it or not, upgrading your front door can produce significant value to your home, as well as return on your investment. Not only is a new front door one of the top remodeling projects with the highest return on investment, but it can provide significant savings in terms of heating and cooling costs. Another great benefit to upgrading or fixing your front door is the short amount of time this can be completed. If you only have a weekend to get a project done, then upgrading your front door is the best project for you.

5. Build a Fire Pit

Another project that is great for a weekend project, is building a fire pit. A fire pit is a quick way to add a cozy and inviting component to your backyard. There are a variety of different options when considering this project that requires the least amount of time to complete. These options include: buying a freestanding fire pit, utilizing an antique or salvaged fire pit, or simply building one.

6. Build/Repair your Deck

A deck can add many beneficial aspects to your home that can make your summertime and hosting events even better than before. To begin, a deck enhances the value of your home. Few things add hard value to your home more than outdoor living areas. Not only does a deck positively impact your home’s value, but it also is an inviting place to host guests and adds outdoor enjoyment. If you enjoy hosting family and friends, a deck is a perfect way to add functional space where people can gather and still have enough room to be all together.

7. Roof Repair

Weather should always be taken into consideration when trying to determine the best time for a roof repair. This is why we recommend that summer/spring are typically the best months for weather, making them the best times to get your roof repaired. A common mistake homeowners make is putting off replacing or repairing their roof even when it is long overdue and there are already signs of problems. Even though the summer months can bring sunny and warm weather, summer can also bring strong and threatening storms. A major leak or damage from a storm can cause collateral damage to not only your roof but to other parts of your home, creating a big financial issue. Be sure to get these repairs done this summer.

8. Gutter Cleaning and Repairs

Making sure your gutters are clean and maintained can prevent wood rot and mold, keep out pests, get rid of ice dams, preserve your paint job, avoid any other major damage to your home, and by keeping them clean this can help your gutters function more efficiently. Be sure to get your gutters cleaned and repaired this summer to prevent any of the potential issues listed previously.
