Pre-Roofing Job
Day Before Your Roofing Installation-
Day of Roofing Installation
Post Roofing Project
Timeline
The time it takes from the day you sign your roofing contract and when we receive your down payment to the completion of your roofing installation can vary. There are many factors that come into play, such as Wisconsin weather, production volume, crew schedules, supplier deliveries, waste disposal, and more. Please trust that our goal is complete a quality roof installation in a timely manner, and we are actively working on making sure we are executing your roofing job as quickly as possible.
Length of Job
Depending on the size of your roof, your roofing replacement can possibly take multiple days.
Roofs that are under 2000 square feet (Roof size, not house interior) usually take just one day. Roofs that are between 2000 square feet and 5000 square feet usually take two days. Roofs over 5000 square feet can take up to 3 days.
Another factor that affects the length of your roofing installation is the pitch or steepness of the roof.
Please trust we are always attempting to execute any roofing job at maximum efficiency without sacrificing the quality of the work being done.
Pre-Installation Phone Call
Your project manager will be in contact with you when we are ready to work with you to schedule the job. We will also address any pre-installation concerns with you that we have, as well as address any concerns you might have regarding the roofing work.
Also, during this time, your project manager will discuss with you an alternative schedule to accommodate the variable nature of Wisconsin weather.
Driveway
During a roof installation or replacement, you may lose the use of all or part of your driveway.
Dump trailers might occupy a significant amount of space in your driveway. The average dump trailer used for roofing work is 22 ft x 8ft x 4ft, taking up at least one lane of a standard two-lane driveway.
If you have plans of using your vehicle(s) during your roofing installation, we strongly recommend parking your vehicles on the street the night before, to ensure you have the access that you need.
Dump Trailer
We often deliver the dump trailer necessary for your roofing replacement the day before.

Materials
During the roofing process, we will need to store roofing materials on your roof, in your driveway and/or possibly in your yard. If you have an area that you want to make sure if free of roofing materials, please inform us of your needs by calling the office at 866-875-1347.
Materials are occasionally delivered the day before a roof replacement or installation will begin.
We intentionally order extra materials than we need to execute a roofing job. We do this to ensure the crew does not run out of supplies during the work. Without extra materials, jobs can take much longer.
You are not going to be charged for these extra materials and you are also not responsible for securing them as well. Extra materials will be picked up 1 to 3 days after completion of roofing installation.
We order these roofing materials knowing that we can return them at the end of the job or use them on other jobs.
Nails
Another helpful thing a homeowner can do is to cut the lawn a bit shorter right before your schedule installation day. This helps us and the many magnets that we use to not miss nails during the cleanup process. Nails can also roll out as we remove the dumpster/dump trailers. While we will inspect your driveways for nails at the end of the roofing process, we also strongly recommend that a homeowner do so as well, as it is not uncommon to find a handful of nails when we are done.

Day of Roofing Installation
Crew and Crew Arrival
Typically, our crew will arrive between 7am and 7:30am to begin your roof removal and replacement. Our crews consist of anywhere from 5 to 8 people. Please remember that the crew is there to work, and usually will not have ability or authority to make certain decisions. If you need to discuss any concerns during your job, please call our office at 866-875-1347 to discuss your concerns with your project manager.
Pre-Job Activities
Before beginning the tear off and replacement of a roof, our crew may, based on their discretion, be doing the following:
Protecting plants, patios, and more with large tarps
Placing plywood or OSB over glass doors for their protection
Moving things like patio furniture, decorations, or anything that could be damaged during the installation
If you have any concerns about these items, we recommend securing them prior to the arrival of our crew or discussing your concerns with your project manager.
Access to Electricity
The roofing process requires various tools, many of which require electricity to work. When discussing your roofing job with our project manager, please inform us of the best place for our crew to access an outlet.

During the work, you also have the possibility of loose roofing nails being present on the driveway. If you plan to use the driveway near the dumpster, we caution you to check the driveway for nails. During construction, nails can bounce and roll to inconvenient places. These nails will be collected and remove prior to the finishing of the roofing job.If you have plans of using your vehicle(s) during your roofing installation, we strongly recommend parking your vehicles on the street the night before to ensure you have the access that you need.
During Your Roofing Job
During your roofing project, you can expect the following to occur:
OSB/Plywood/Decking
The existing roof will be removed down to the decking/plywood/OSB. When this happens, we will inspect for damage to the decking and replace what is necessary. Your sales consultant will have covered this with you prior to contract singing and how this might incur additional costs. Unfortunately, this is not something that we can consult with you on the day of installation, as the crew needs to be able to make the decking repair/replacement right away to continue working. Please refer to your contract for more information on this process.
Penetrations
Penetrations such as pipe vents, chimneys, etc. are sealed with flashing materials, pipe boots, and more.
Valleys and Drip Edges
During your roof installation/replacement, existing valleys and drip edge metals will be removed and replaced with new materials.
Pets and Noise
Roof installation and replacement is a noisy process. If you have pets who are easily spooked or sensitive to loud noises, we recommend you make any accommodations you feel appropriate for your pet’s comfort that keeps them feeling safe and secure while out of the way of the roofing crew. Also, please make sure to make your family aware that this process will have
Saws running
Hammers pounding
Large bangs during removal of existing roofing
Trucks coming and going
Please secure all pets during the roofing process, as well as check all fencing and gates before you let your pets out after the roofing work is completed or at the end of the first day of roof work. Gates and fences sometimes have quirks that even though it looks closed, our crew may inadvertently not secured your gate properly.
Mess and Debris
We encourage all homeowners to bear in mind that a day of roofing work can be a very messy process. Sometimes roof waste and debris will end up on your lawn and landscaping. We use tarps and plywood to alleviate as much mess as possible. We always do what we can to keep mess to a minimum and protect your property.
Dust
Homeowners should also bear in mind that we will be banging and pounding on your roof, which may cause plaster/drywall dust to come off your ceiling. This is perfectly normal and does not mean that there is anything wrong with the ceiling or the roofing work. However, if you have possessions or furniture that you would like to protect, we recommend laying down tarps/sheets/blankets/towels to prevent this dust from covering your possessions.
Stones
Re-roofing generates a lot of little stones that can find your way into your gutters. You will see these small granules washing down in your gutters for a while after your roof installation. These are NOT from your new roof, but debris from removing your old roof.
Nails
The average roof has thousands of nails in it. When we remove an old roof, there are a great many nails moving between the roof and the dumpsters, and stray nails can end up anywhere. A common place for nails to show up is the S-bends of your gutters.
During the cleaning process, we clean out your gutters and do our absolute best to make sure that no nails are present. However, some nails we might not be able to get there. We recommend that after the first big rain, you might notice a few nails at the ends of your downspouts.Another helpful thing a homeowner can do is to cut the lawn a bit shorter right before your schedule installation day. Post Roofing Project
New Roof Appearance
Your new roof may look wavy after installation. If it does, do not panic! The reason is that asphalt shingles feature an adhesive strip that softens during warm weather, especially if the sun’s rays hit the roof directly. When the shingles heat up, the become flexible and the adhesive bonds the shingles in place. Before new shingles seal down, they can look a little lumpy and uneven. However, once the roof gets hot enough, they will soften, flatten, and form a permanent seal. Sometimes north facing roof slopes take a bit longer, as they do not get as much direct sunlight.
Ridge Vent
The ridge vent that we use comes in rolls measuring 30 feet. It has spent a great deal of time in the shape of a coil. As with the shingles mentioned above, it will take a few warm summer days to make it lay flat.
When the roofing work is completed, you will notice some materials left over. You are not going to be charged for these extra materials and you are also not responsible for securing them as well.
